Stories that Inspire

A chance encounter reconnected Tom Beyard ‘77 with TU, resulting in $1M gift. Tom found a passion in giving to TU women's basketball and the athletic program and, as a result, has become an ambassador for Tiger Athletics.

Tom Beyard

“When I think about my legacy at TU—it is my mentors who moved me to give back. It’s a privilege. Being civically engaged in the community makes you think about how to help those who come after you. My gift funds Model UN, conferences and research positions for students.”

Lauren Cahalan ’18

“The reason I want to help others is rooted in my family background. My story is the epitome of the American dream. I see where my family came from, where I am now, and I see others in need. To ignore it just doesn’t sit right.”

David Diaz ’99

“It’s just part of giving back—because of the success in life I have enjoyed. We are proud to do it.”

John Schuerholz ’62 ‘07 and Karen Schuerholz

“I thought that it was the right time to make a substantial commitment to TU’s future and hope it inspires others to support TU. My goal is that a fellow alum will quickly follow my gift with an even larger gift.”
